Old City Cemetery (October, 2022)

These tours are given in the month of October by candle light and feature local actors playing historical members of Lynchburg Virginia, many of whom are buried in the cemetery. The characters change every season and span across many historical time periods.

The character's of the 2022 season include:

Mrs. Lottie, who was a great friend to local children

Martha Spence Edley: a Nurse in the Ladies Relief Hospital during the Civil War.

Dr. Perrow: A doctor during the Spanish Influenza

Samuel Kelso: The first African American elected to public office in Lynchburg Va. in 1867.

Foundered, the story of Minnie Coles Shumaker who drowned in the James River in 1915.

All of the Tour Guides were also people who had been buried in the cemetery and each had their own unique story and costume.  The two featured in the gallery were the first tour, James and Martha Scurry, James was from Ireland.

Pieces constructed by designer include: Martha Spence Edley's Apron,  Dr. Perrow's scrubs, Minnie's Skirt
