The Old City Cemetery Candlelight Tours 2022:

In the Fall of 2022 I was the Costume  Designer for The Candle Light Tours at the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, Va. under director Loretta Whitman. The tours were given in the month of October by candle light featuring actors playing local and historical people who are buried there. There were a wide range of time periods and we did a lot of borrowing and buying, and some building.

Some of the character's include:

Mrs. Lottie

Martha Spence Edley: a Nurse in the Ladies Relief Hospital during the Civil War.  My Assistant Designer Savannah Bower constructed this gown and I did the apron.

Dr. Perrow: A doctor during the Spanish Influenza, Savannah built his gauze mask and I made his scrubs.

Samuel Kelso: The first African American elected to public office in Lynchburg Va. in 1867.

Foundered, the story of Minnie Coles Shumaker who drowned in the James River in 1915.  Savannah built  Grannie's plaid coat and we both built Minnie's blue skirt.

All of the Tour Guides were also people who had been buried in the cemetery and each had their own unique story and costume.  The two featured in the gallery were the first tour, James and Martha Scurry, James was from Ireland.
